Background
The heat (and salt) budget for the oceans that are included in the ARC MFC model configuration are impacted by the lateral fluxes across the open boundaries. Hence, in order to monitor the impact on the heat budget from heat transfer across the lateral open boundaries, weekly updated results are made available here. The purpose is to provide comparisons from which issues that may be associated with model code inaccuracies or production anomalies may be identified. This can potentially avert misrepresentations in the results of the amount and distribution of heat in the ARC MFC configuration.
Note that the purpose here is not to assess the forecast quality in either product. Information about the quality of forecasts for temperature profiles from ARC MFC is available for each bulletin, here.
Global MFC model
Analyses and forecasts from GLO MFC are used to provide conditions at the open boundary of ARC MFC's NRT PHY analyses and forecasts. Here, we compare results for daily averages of temperature profiles from the ARC MFC product ARCTIC_ANALYSISFORECAST_PHY_002_001/ (dataset: cmems_mod_arc_phy_anfc_6km_detided_P1D-m) and the GLO MFC product GLOBAL_ANALYSISFORECAST_PHY_001_024 (dataset: cmems_mod_glo_phy-thetao_anfc_0.083deg_P1D-m). The comparisons are restricted to the region close to the open boundary of the ARC MFC configuration, and results are displayed as functions of forecast range and distance from the open boudary. Temperature results have been integrated over the following depth intervals:
- 0-10 m
- 10-25 m
- 25-100 m
- 100-250 m
- 250-1000 m
- 1000-2500 m
